Imposter Syndrome

September 22, 20251 min read

Imposter syndrome isn’t proof that you’re a fraud.
It’s a signal: your confidence tank has sprung a leak.

Most people assume the fix is perfection—earn another certification, master every skill, be “ready.” But confidence isn’t about knowing everything in advance. It’s about trusting your ability to figure it out as you go.

3 Signs Your Confidence Is Leaking

1. You dismiss your wins.
Even when others notice, you downplay or deflect: “Oh, it was nothing,” or “I just got lucky.”

2. You delay action until you feel “ready.”
Opportunities pass you by while you wait for certainty that never comes.

3. You over-prepare to prove your worth.
Spending hours polishing slides or rewriting emails—when the real work is showing up and contributing.

How to Patch the Leak

  • Reframe the voice. Instead of, “Who am I to do this?” try, “Who am I not to?”

  • Practice reps, not perfection. Confidence grows like muscle—through repetition, not flawless execution.

  • Collect evidence. Keep a running list of wins, feedback, and lessons learned. It becomes a reservoir you can draw from when doubt shows up.

The Big Shift

Imposter syndrome loses its grip when you stop tying confidence to certainty and start tying it to trust. Trust that you can figure it out. Trust that you can recover from mistakes. Trust that your contribution matters, even if it’s not perfect.
