Stop Shoulding on yourself
How many times today have you said:
“I should get that done.”
“I should be more productive.”
“I should feel more grateful.”
“I should already be past this.”
Sound familiar?
It’s a loop I know well—because I’ve lived it. And so have the women I coach.
Here’s the truth no one talks about:
💭 “Should” is often just shame in disguise.
It sounds responsible. Motivated, even.
But underneath, it’s laced with guilt, pressure, and internal criticism.
It keeps you stuck, striving, and secretly feeling like you’re never quite enough.
Let me be clear:
“Shoulding” on yourself is a mindset trap.
It’s one of the inner critic’s favorite ways to sabotage your peace and power.
💡 The Shift: From “Should” to “I Choose”
One of the fastest ways to rewire your thoughts is to change your language.
Next time you hear that “I should…” thought bubble up, try this:
🔁 Replace it with:
“I choose to…”
“I’m allowed to…”
“I get to…”
“I’m not ready yet—and that’s okay.”
Why? Because language shapes your belief system.
And belief shapes your behavior.
“Should” is pressure.
“I choose” is power.
✨ Try This Journaling Prompt
Take 5 quiet minutes and reflect on this:
📝 Where in your life are you operating from ‘should’ right now?
I should be more __________
I should already have __________
I should stop __________
Now, rewrite each one with “I choose to…” or “I get to…”
Let your nervous system feel the difference.
💬 Real Talk
I say it all the time—stop shoulding on yourself.
Not just because it’s a funny one-liner (although it always gets a smile 😉).
But because it’s a deep truth:
You don’t need more pressure.
You need more permission to live from your own rhythm.
And if you’re tired of carrying the invisible pressure of all your “shoulds”?
You don’t have to do it alone.
